How and when can I get my child started?

We offer our recreational gymnastics and tumbling classes year round, on a month to month basis. Summer sessions are also available for classes and camps. To get your child started, call or drop by to schedule your FREE trial class today. Once we get an idea of your child’s level of experience, our knowledgeable staff will place your child in a class that is suitable for his or her age and level. What are your hours of operation?

Our normal business hours in the Fall are Monday – Friday from 2pm – 7pm. Currently we also have morning classes on Monday and Friday and are here from 9-11am as well. Our business hours in the Summer are 6:30 am – 7:00 or 8:00 pm. Please visit our website at www.universalgymnasticstn.com for more information on classes.

When is tuition due for for monthly classes?

Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. Your card on file will be charged on the 5th if payment is not made by then. If for some reason we do not have a card on file, a late fee of $10 will be assessed to all delinquent accounts on the 10th of the month and an additional $10 on the 20th, not to exceed $20 per month. If tuition is not paid by the end of the month, your child will lose his or her place in class. He or she will not be able to attend class until the balance is paid in full.

When is tuition due for for weekly programs?

After School & Summer Camp Program fees are due on Monday of each week or the first day of the week you sign up for afterschool or summer camp. If payment is not made by Wednesday, a late fee of $10 will be assessed. If tuition is not paid by Friday of that week, your child will not be allowed to attend the following week unless the balance is paid in full.

What does my child need to bring to class?

Besides a great attitude and an eagerness to learn, students may bring a water bottle to class (water only). We do have a water fountain in the gym.
NO food or gum is permitted in the gym.

Can I watch my child’s class? May I drop my child off?

We do allow parents to watch in our parent viewing area upstairs. Parents or siblings not in class are not allowed in the gym area. It is also acceptable to drop your child off. Please make sure we have your correct contact information on file should we need to reach you and that you are back to pick up your child as soon as class is over.

What is the communication process between parents and the gym?

Our most effective way of communication is via email. Please provide us with your email address at the time of registration to ensure you receive all the current updates and events. If your email changes at anytime, please inform someone in the office. We will post scheduled closings in the lobby and on our website. Event sign up sheets will be at the front desk. If a situation occurs involving your child during class, you will be notified by a coach either in person or over the phone. If there is a situation regarding your account, you will be notified either in person, over the phone, or via email. All questions regarding accounts should be directed towards the front desk receptionist.

Do you offer make-up classes?

If the student misses a regularly scheduled class, the student is entitled to a make up two classes per month. You can make up two weeks prior to a missed class or two weeks after. See someone at the front desk or call to schedule a makeup. It is your responsibility to schedule a makeup class. Please do not drop-in to take class, so that we can keep our ratios 8/1 for recreational gymnastics classes, and 10/1 for our tumbling classes.

Please note that make-ups will not apply when there are 5 weeks in the month and the gym is closed for holiday. Tuition rates are based on 4 weeks/month.

Each year we plan closings due to observed holidays. These closings will be posted in the lobby. Please inquire at the front desk as to whether or not the classes missed need to be made up.

What is the procedure for inclement weather?

If there is inclement weather (i.e. snow or stormy weather), please call ahead or check your email before coming to class. If we are closed, we will state this on our voicemail and contact you through email. If the roads are passable by early evening, chances are we will be open regardless of school closings. If the gym is closed due to inclement weather, missed classes may be made up. Please see someone at the front desk or call to schedule a makeup class.

What if I need to change my child’s class day or time?

We realize that conflicts occasionally arise due to outside activities and sports. It is perfectly fine to move your child to a different day or time as long as the class accommodates the student’s level and that there are openings in the class. Please call the gym or see someone at the front desk.

How do I know if my child is progressing?

You should see your child improving from week to week. Your child should walk away from class with a feeling of accomplishment. You should witness your child perfecting the basics, as well as learning new things. The student should gradually grow stronger and more flexible. If you notice that your child is in a rut or bored, it may be that the student needs to be moved up in level. Your child may also need to add an additional a class, as the more time your child spends in the gym, the more they will progress. Conditioning and stretching outside of the gym is also recommended to sustain strength and flexibility and will allow your child to progress quickly. If you are unsure of your child’s progress, please call the gym to discuss their progress or talk to your child’s coach before or after class. A coach will typically approach the parent if their student needs to be moved to a different class.

How do I know when my child is ready to move up to the next level?

If you think your child needs to move the next level or if you are interested in our team program, please talk with your child’s coach. Typically a coach will approach the parent if they see that a child would benefit from moving up. In March we evaluate recreational gymnasts for new team members. Team coaches will be assessing each and every recreational student and will let you, the parent, know if they see that your child would make a good fit for team. Letters are sent out inviting potential students that have shown interest to consider being evaluated formally and information is given regarding dates for these evaluations.

What if my child wants or needs to discontinue his/her class?

Even though we strongly believe that gymnastics is the perfect sport, we realize that it may not be for every child. Children must have the desire to take class in order to enjoy it. If you want or need to drop your child, we do require a 30 day written notice. You may pick up a drop notice form at the front desk. We must have this form signed by you before your child will be taken out of class. If you discontinue without written notice, you will be billed for one missed month and then automatically dropped. Please inform the front desk receptionist if you are considering dropping your child’s class. This is very important, as we like to maintain our ratios and your child’s spot in class will be held each month unless we are notified of a drop.
